Who we are
Kayavu is a property social network operating in Ghana and South Africa. This policy explains what we do with the information you give us when you create an account, list a property, book a viewing or stay, or message another member.
What we collect
Account details: name, handle, email address, phone number, city and country, profile photo, headline and bio.
Verification material: identity and business documents you upload so we can confirm you are who you say you are. These are stored privately and are only visible to you and the Kayavu review team.
Property information: listings you publish, photos, prices, availability and the neighbourhood they sit in.
Activity: listings you save, like, comment on or review, people you follow, messages you send, Loop preferences, and booking history.
Payment records: the amount, currency, reference and status of a booking payment. Card and mobile money details are handled by our payment providers and never stored on Kayavu.
Technical data: device and browser information, and basic logs we use to keep the service secure and working.
Why we use it
To run your account, show your public profile and listings, and match you with homes through the Loop.
To process bookings and payments, and to send you and your host confirmations.
To verify members and reduce fraud, impersonation and fake listings.
To improve Kayavu, understand which markets and neighbourhoods need attention, and support you when something goes wrong.
What other people can see
Public: your name, handle, headline, bio, photo, city, country, verification level, published listings, reviews you write and comments you post.
Private: your email, phone number, verification documents, messages, booking details and payment records. Booking contact details are shared with the host of the property you booked, and with you as a host when someone books your property.
Sharing
We share data with the services that make Kayavu work: hosting and database infrastructure, our payment providers for settling bookings, and our email provider for confirmations. We do not sell your personal information.
We may disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect members from harm or fraud.
Keeping it safe
Access to your data is controlled at the database level, so members can only read what they are entitled to. Documents sit in private storage that requires a signed link. Payments run through the provider's own secure checkout.
How long we keep it
We keep account and listing data while your account is open. Booking and payment records are kept for as long as tax and accounting rules in Ghana and South Africa require. Verification documents are deleted once a decision has been made and the retention period has passed.
Your rights
You can view and edit most of your information from your profile at any time. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account. Some records tied to completed bookings must be retained for legal reasons.
Ghanaian members are covered by the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). South African members are covered by POPIA.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
